There is something of a misconception from those 'not in the know' about building scale models. Mention that you are a model builder to most people and they will almost 100% of the time envisage some splodgy 1/72 spitfire hanging from the ceiling by a thick piece of cotton........probably chasing a messerschmit.
To those of us 'in the know' it is of course a different story; whilst most of us probably did start out that way with old Airfix or matchbox kits, things have now moved on a touch. kits can range from a £5 all the way up to Armourteks whopping RC konigstigers wighing in at a whopping £4000 on average though a standard 1/35th scale kit will set you back a good £35-40, add then tools, paints, glues and so on and the costs soon start mounting. What this means is that scale modelling is one of the biggest businesses nobody has heard of, many millions of pounds are spent each year by budding modellers worldwide and the hobby is expanding year on year. As some proof of this we have the Tokyo hobby show, along with Shizuoka and Nurenberg it is one o many model expos that take place worldwide each year showcasing new products and new manufacturers. For the modeller it is of course a shop window into the fture where we can see just what might be in our christmas stocking for next year. Here are a few of my favourites from Tokyo and Shizuoka, Whilst i am mainly a WWII Axis armour modeller i do also dabble in things with wings and boats that sink :) so the choice is quite eclectic.
